SINGAPORE – The Philippines’ move to immediately suspend permits for nurses who want to work abroad could impact Singapore where about a third of the nursing workforce comprises foreign nationals.

The decision, coming as the country shores up its healthcare system amid a surge in local cases, affects nurses as well as nursing aides and assistants. Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) said that as at end 2019, about 7,600 employees in its nursing workforce were from the Philippines.
